When I first heard about putting pomegranate on peanut butter toast, I was hesitant. But if Padma Lakshmi likes it, it must be good, right?

My verdict? It freakin’ rocks.

I’m so glad I tried it, because it tastes just like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, only crunchy! While it seems silly to have a recipe for this, I wanted to also share a few tips to make this humble toast just a bit more heart-healthy.

Ingredient Tips:

Pick whole grain bread with at least 3g of fiber. Fiber is beneficial for both your heart and your gut health. Just to ensure the nutritional information is accurate, I specified the bread I used when I made this: Dave’s Killer 21 Whole Grains and Seeds. It’s my go-to bread with a whopping 5g of fiber per slice!

For the peanut butter, go for natural and unsalted. This way you don’t worry about added sodium, sugars, and oils. The ingredients should ONLY contain peanuts. Check out the 4 Heart Healthy Tips When Shopping for Peanut Butter blog to learn how to shop for peanut butter with heart health in mind.

Pomegranate will taste the best during its peak season between September and February. They’re a great source of antioxidants and minerals.

Go ahead and put all three ingredients together and let the magic happen!
